Everyone talks about the elephant in the room. Ours was in the closet.

The idea for Elephant in the Closet was born in 2016, around a break room we never actually sat in.

Every day, one of us would come home from work with the same story. Coworkers venting about Republicans, about the election, about "those people" — all of it said freely, casually, with total confidence that everyone in the room agreed. It never seemed to occur to anyone that someone thoughtful, someone they liked and respected, might see things differently. Might be sitting right there.

We'd listen to these stories over dinner and say the same thing to each other: everyone's talking about the elephant in the room, but the real elephant is the one in the closet.

That phrase stuck with us for years before it became a company.

The Quiet Way

Here's the thing about us: we've never been the loud ones. We don't argue at parties. We don't get into it on social media. That's just not how we were raised, and it's not who we are. But we've always believed there are quieter ways to show people what you stand for. The early Christians drew a simple fish in the sand — not a speech, not a confrontation, just a small mark that said I'm here, and if you are too, you're not alone.

That's what Elephant in the Closet is. Every piece we make is designed to be a subtle expression of your values — something you'd actually wear to work, to dinner, to your kid's game. If you know, you know. And when someone else knows too, you've found a friend you didn't realize you had.
